08122014 - just the terrain...the city walls' moat gives an outline of the city footprint. I almost got rid of the forest so you could see that it's a ridgeline (it's mostly orange underneath all the dark green, it's peeking out along that creek bisecting the forests). this also clearly shows that the castle complex is at the top of a gentle slope from Südtor, and both Pana's old house and the Warmage Academy are on higher elevation. with the castle now looming about 30 feet above the canal, the sewer opening could be closer to 15-20 feet up, with about 10 feet climb up the sewer drain to the garde robe on the ground floor. this map also clearly shows the two islets and the sandbars that provide the foundation for Südtor and the Silver Highway bridge

08242014 - another revision...the hill near Pana's old house, Kastellberg (castle hill), is now the highest point in the city, hence the name of the street. it was where Hannetz built his first keep, long before the canal was built. the ruins of the keep is now a park, sparsely dotted with trees. it is also the hilltop upon which Loewenherz sat astride his horse, looking at the action down at the old family manse in the later chapters. also bumped the current castle up an elevation level, so it's about 60 feet above the canal, the sewer opening about 30 feet up from the water

08272014 - decided that a 500 foot wide Lida River was gonna cause problems for the battle where the High Porte army fords the shallow but swift flowing river, so reduced it to between 100-150 feet. I guess not much barge traffic is gonna be able to navigate this river, which explains why the Silver Highway is so important for trade. also did away with the moat around the castle complex, as it was redundant and merchants built row buildings all along the complex walls anyway...durn merchants
